Back In The Dungeon…

Hello again, everybody! We finally have warm, sunny, spring-like weather here in Toronto… and what better way to celebrate it by… staying inside, and working at my computer….  ugh.

It’s been a very busy year for me so far.  Although I had started work on a few haunt animation tests and haunt projects soon after last Halloween, a (much welcome) swarm of ‘non-haunt’ projects flooded in, prevented me from putting all my efforts into the next batch of haunt animations these last few months.

Last night, I officially ‘returned to the dungeon’, working away one some stuff again.  It’s going very well, and I’m pretty excited about what I have produced so far.  More non-haunt work is headed my way, but for now (and during any lulls during that next wave), I’ll be totally focused on Scaremation stuff in my usual, dangerously obsessive way.

I’ve been away from Facebook and the blog for quite a while, but am planning on returning with posts and stuff in the next few days (…this being the first of them).

I’m actually working on a… secret Scaremation project right now.  It’s a lot of work, but I really want to complete this one.  I’ll keep you posted.

Hope everyone is doing well.  If you too have nice weather where you are, I hope you are out there enjoying it (…and not being a moron like me, and choosing this lovely day to start heavy computer animation work sessions again…argh).

As usual, a big thanks for the support and feedback.

Cheers,

Laer

Current top selling pocket projector on AMAZON

Was reading about this nice little Brookstone LED projector today and it is currently the top selling pocket projector on AMAZON.

tempI love the face the pocket ones are getting higher LUMENS value for a brighter picture.  This one is 85 which would work nicely in the  dark / near dark which of course us haunters supply all too well!

Projects an HDMI picture up to 5 feet diagonal.

This one does not have a way of projecting via  a flash drive which is unusual these days , but you can connect the usual array of other devices to it.

The battery life on the pocket projectors might be an issue for the big night as most   run 90-120 minutes , but they can also be plugged in.

As always there is NEVER a shortage of ideas as our original list was huge ,  and you guys have also provided some excellent feedback and direct requests. There has been some great ones that we will get to.

We hope to have some other news very soon about some of the upcoming haunt conventions , as well as the work in progress.

Happy Holidays…. And Congratulations On Not Dying!

Well, good to see we are all still here!  We here at Scaremation wish you all the very best for the holidays and the new year ahead of us all (…as opposed to us all being vaporized or whatever was supposed to happen…  Then again, maybe it’ll still happen, and we are just neglecting some leap year or time zone thing… or it was a typo or something.  Well, whatever the case, whatever amount of time we do have, may it be filled with happiness and success!)

Cheers!

Scaresdale Manor 2012

Photos of our 2012 haunt are up on our Scaresdale Manor Facebook page.  Have a look!

Check out our 2012 Scaresdale Manor photo gallery on Facebook!

It was a tough year, as we had virtually no time to prep, and had to scale the display down considerably, but I think it actually turned out pretty good!

Hope You’re Safe…

Our best wishes and hopes to those (such as us) who are battling the weather, trying to set up your haunts (or wondering if the weather will even let you).  It’s so very frustrating, spending the previous months building props and planning setups that you are so eager to reveal to the public… only to potentially have your entire haunt in jeopardy.  Or, to manage to set it up, only to watch it get completely trashed.  It seems our recent cartoon commercial (viewable on any of the Scaremation site pages) is uncomfortably timely.

However, at the same time, we do all have to put things in perspective, I think… While some of us grumble about having our gravestones tipped over, there seems to be a lot more serious things happening in other areas.  I haven’t been keeping up to date with the hurricanes and storms (I’ve been busy doing some sculpting, with the TV off), but the bits of news I hear trickling in from friends has been pretty alarming…  In the USA, I’ve been hearing about subway shutdowns, evacuations, and floodings.  Here in Toronto, I’ve even heard of a casualty (although where I am, it’s been quiet, like any regular night).

So, wherever you happen to be, and whatever intensity of weather/situation you are currently dealing with, Andrew and I both wish you safety and well-being.

UPDATE: Turns out some of the reports of shutdowns, flooding, etc might actually be fake… but, nonetheless, there’s people suffering real trouble out there, so the message still stands.

There’s Still Time!…

Hello again, everyone! We hope you are all doing well with your haunt setups, and that the weather, wherever you are, is behaving (…not likely, it seems, but we can always hope).

There’s still time to buy a Scaremation animation to enhance your haunt!  We will be open through the month of October and November, and we’ll probably continue being open afterwards as well, I think.

Looks like we may have rain for the next couple of days over here (Toronto/Oakville), which is not making a lot of the haunters wanting to set up their yards happy.  (We can relate… we have our own to set up)

Projection/monitor animation is a good backup plan (safely inside your home, and out of the bad weather), in case your other decorations are being blown to the end of the street, or haven’t been put up due to it raining all week!

If you don’t have a projector, this article might help you out:

…or, just play it the animations on a monitor.  Not only will you get motion in your haunt, but also a detailed sound effects track, and often the added benefit of flashing/coloured light spilling onto the rest of your haunt.

When you do purchase your animation, please make sure that the emails that will be sent to you with your download links won’t get blocked by your spam filter.  If you don’t get your email soon after placing your order, please check your junk/spam folder.  On our side, we receive a copy of the email sent to you, so we are alerted of the sale, and that the download link was sent. If you still have trouble, just contact us, and we’ll battle through it and make things right.

For those who are still on the fence about buying, please check out our sample clips in the Products page, as well as the kind words in the Testimonials page! Feel free to write us with questions as well.

Thanks, as usual, to everyone who is purchasing our work! We are really encouraged by the positive feedback we have been getting about the animations, and we really look forward to presenting you with the next batch.

All the best for your haunts!

Cheers!

Looking Good…

This is only our second year of selling our animations to the public, yet we are very surprised and happy to see the amount of sales and feedback we have been getting so far.  This our first journey into ‘global, online sales’, and we really weren’t sure how it would go, or how people would react, but it’s been going very well.  We thank you all for that, very much!

We are listening to your requests and comments, and are eager to continue creating more for you.  It’s been a lot of long days/nights for me, over the length of the year, but I still am eager to jump into the next batch already… after I deal with some other projects, figure out what I’m making/getting my parents for Christmas, and take a little bit of a rest… sometime!

Each animation has been a really good learning experience, as I continue to develop new techniques and effects, as well as discovering what I like (as well as what you all like!).  There’s still loads of previous tests and ideas that I want to make into finalized pieces.  You’ll be seeing another brand new batch for next year… and I think you’ll really like what I have planned.

Andrew, who unfortunately hasn’t been able to sit in the animator’s chair so far (due to taking care of the business end of the business, as well as several other things), is eager to jump on board, and add his own brand of craziness and skill to our library.

We love hearing from you… be it with questions, comments, or just to let us know how your haunt is going. We’re haunt enthusiasts ourselves, putting what remaining energy we have as we near Halloween into our own haunt, Scaresdale Manor.

And, if you like our work, and want to help us out, please spread the word about us!

So, although I’ve said it countless times already, a big thanks from Andrew and I for the kind comments, purchases and support!  Your positive response has really fueled my already strong eagerness to keep at this.  Much more to follow!

Cheers!
Larry ‘Laer’ Adlon
